A Look Back At The Dota Pro Circuit And Thoughts On The 2018-2019 Season
The inaugural season of the Dota Pro Circuit was certainly a whirlwind – from exhibitions to tournaments our team participated in over 16 different events throughout the year. While we were very successful by most metrics, our TI8 run ended in 5th place last month, marking the end to the first step in our journey in the DPC system. We could not have done it without the remarkable talents of every team member, and our fans who have supported us through the year.
As we look forward towards the upcoming season, it is with a great sense of gratitude that we bid farewell to two of our stars, Adrian ‘Fata’ Trinks and Marcus ‘Ace’ Hoelgaard Christensen and thank them for their contributions to the team.
It was just over a year ago when we announced that both Adrian and Marcus would be joining Team Secret to take on the first mega season of the Dota Pro Circuit. We entered the scene with a bang, securing a slot in the Grand Finals of ESL One Hamburg, the first Major of the season, after taking down the freshly crowned International 2017 Champions Team Liquid. While we ultimately fell in that tournament to Virtus Pro, it wasn’t long before we came back swinging – DreamLeague Season 8 in Jönköping, Sweden was the next Major on the horizon, which saw the teams return to a familiar battleground. After some of the best Team Secret Dota to be witnessed, we secured our first Major championship in the Dota Pro Circuit and cemented our position on the road to The International 2018.
From there on, the team won both Captain’s Draft and DreamLeague Season 9 Minors in a remarkable winter tournament run. Our success in these tournaments and throughout the rest of the season could not have been possible without both Adrian and Marcus on the team.
Thank you both – and we wish you the very best of luck on your future teams.
Looking forward, we are excited for the upcoming 2018-2019 DPC season, starting off with the first Major in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. You can watch Team Secret Dota make their competitive debut on September 19th when the European Qualifiers for the Major kick off.
For those of you in Singapore, you will be able to get the chance to see our roster make their LAN debut at the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre on October 5-7 for the PVP Esports Championships.
Our roster for this season needs no introduction – Team Secret alum Ludwig “Zai” Wåhlberg will be returning home to his natural offlane position, and wunderkid Michal “Nisha” Jankowski will be taking on the carry position to round out our lineup. Please join us in welcoming them to the Secret family.
